LR and her troupe decided it was time to beg for extracrédito for our pragmatics class so we signed up to make fools of ourselves in front of the entire Spanish department. Who's that? Yes, it is me, crooning Chicana musical sensation Selena's "Bidi bidi bom bom" with Tysonsito and Raina. The experience was all quite nerve-racking and dignity-destructive, but we made it through together. Other than our funky performance, we had the chance to enjoy everyone else's performances - many of them were excellent and downright heartfelt. What a great way to kick off our Hispanic Heritage Week!
Here's my group and I, awaiting the results. Drum roll please....we got FIRST PLACE in the group division! Whoo hoo! Great work, chicos. We may have embarrassed ourselves, but we entertained the latinos at school and won some free margaritas at Chilis and flan at La Cucaracha!
Here are some of the UH Manoa's Spanish Department's grad students, undergraduates and professor Arantxa Ascunce.
Now what's next on our list? TAMALE TUESDAYS! Sigma Delta Pi and the Spanish Club are hosting a free culinary workshop on the 12th floor of UH Manoa's dorm Frear Hall TUESDAY night at 6:30 p.m.!
