Colors, Sigma Delta Pi & Hispanic Heritage Week

It's been a busy weekend! Here's some exciting and eye-catching things I'd like to share:

Meet Devika Wasson, a performer at the University of Hawaii at Manoa's "Manoa Experience." The colors of her costume grabbed my attention as she was on her way to the stage. I was thrilled to watch her perform a traditional Indian dance. The bright orange and turquoise were so vibrant against the dull beige Hamilton Library. I wish I had my Canon Rebel XTi.

The "Manoa Experience" was basically a recruiting fest for UH. Students from various public schools were invited to get a taste of what the school had to offer in terms of student organizations and academic departments.

Naturally, LR was able to set up a colorful booth and promote the Spanish Club and Sigma Delta Pi (the Spanish Honor Society). My little friend Raina and I also had a chance to promote Hispanic Heritage Week at UH! In commemoration of National Hispanic Heritage Month (October), Sigma Delta Pi and the Spanish Club decided to coordinate fun events! Take a look at our schedule of events:

Keep in mind, our MAJOR but intimate event is Noche Bohemia, the artistic and poetic conclusion of our Hispanic Heritage Week. There will be flamenco guitar, poetry (recited in Spanish) and dance. Also, this would be a good chance to meet hispanohablantes from different countries and those active in the Hispanic community at Noche Bohemia on Friday, October 23rd.

A little known fact: according to the Centro Hispano de Hawaii, there are a little more than 100,000 latinos in Hawaii (not including military personnel). Why not come out, support and celebrate Hispanic cultures in Hawaii?
