After believing "we" are okay,
After the tsunami scare
Rushing to pack my photos,
external hard drive,
La Malinche,
my blackberry
and grandmother all in my camry...
I realize I am selfish to think "we" are okay.
"We" are not okay.
In fact, "we" are weeping the loss of our grandmother,
daughter, mother, second cousin twice removed and study abroad friends
who were in Chile.
That little boy Anderson Cooper interviewed on TV,
he is not - okay.
"We" as humanity, as a world, are not okay
and I forgot that once I returned to work this Monday,
directing all my attention to my Latin American studies midterm
and Campos de Castilla,
all my other mundane passions like soy lattes
and tulips from a secret admirer that made great filler material
for the Haiti/Chile/Hawaii-Guam-Japan Tsunami chaos
that took up the space in my mind for the past month.
"We" are not okay.
Lo que he visto en las noticias es terrible. Dos países han sufrido terremotos que causaron efectos devestadores. Chile y Haití están recuperando de los desastres naturales y en Hawai, me parece que la ayuda y conciencia no es suficiente. Sí, tuvimos que evacuar de algunas partes de las islas hawaianas, estabamos sentados en los bordes de nuestras sillas, mirando, esperando...por nada.
Después de nuestra "dress rehearsal," pensemos que todo estará bien. Algunos de nuestros se olvidaron los sufrimientos y los privaciones de otros a través del mar o la otra parte del mundo.
El viernes, aprendí sobre el terremoto en Chile (del 8,8 grados Richter) que causó (una cantidad indeterminada), approximadamente 802 muertos. En Haití, el terremoto causó aproximadamente 100,000 a 270,000 muertos (una cantidad proveído por el gobierno de Haití).
La pérdida de las vidas, las ciudades y hogares es horrible. La gente tiene que recuperar y regresar a la normalidad. We are lucky. Nuestra normalidad empezó el lunes. Para la gente de Chile y Haití, su normalidad no comenzará hasta reciba financiación y recursos para recuperar.
