If you haven't already, I suggest you pay a visit to the Honolulu Academy of Arts and take in some Spanish history. The sketches of Spanish artist Francisco Goya are featured in their own little exhibit. I visited it a couple months ago and I believe they have the prints until January 10th of next year. The exhibit is equipped with magnifying glasses, the sketches are rather small, but it's fun to use a little contraption to view art.
But brace yourself. Frankly, it's an awful sight. Goya illustrates the tragedies that had occurred during the early-1800's in Spain. The entire exhibit showcases corpses, rape, murder and tristeza. Some have said this is the dark side of Goya's art. It's an interesting (and disturbing) tale that he tells through his images, it's definitely something that will change your view of Spain.
