The Ramen Girl

The other day I finally got my hands on 'The Ramen Girl,' a cute, girly movie starring Brittany Murphy. I assumed I'd love it because I enjoyed Murphy's performances in 8 Mile, Just Married and Uptown Girls. She's got that vulnerability that comes off as cute and forgivable.

The movie started out as a little boring, I cringed at the disappointing chemistry between Murphy and her onscreen boyfriend who abandons her two weeks after she moves to Tokyo to be with him. The point where I started to really pay attention was when she started to mourn the relationship failure by smoking cigarrettes and drinking wine/beer (or sake).

After that, the movie catapulted into a great story, with loud, angry dialogue between Murphy and her sensei, Maezumi. It's like 'Karate Kid' all over again, except with ramen and funny exchanges between the two characters.

It's definitely worth it to rent it. Only problem, it might get your stomach craving for ramen when it's done.
