eh, brah! you shop Marukai?

so as the end of the semester is nearing, i was required to write a 10 page paper on a topic that i'm very passionate about. instead of the usual vintage fashion and culinary findings, i selected a topic that has been on my mind for the past month: buying local.

this ad in Victoria Ward's parking garage what inspired my journalistic take on buying local. at first i thought, "why should i? i'm poor!" but then after reading a few articles on our down-spiraled economy, i figured, why DON'T we buy local? it supports our local farmers, keeps the money in the state and keeps the country COUNTRY.

now there are plenty of reasons why some of us choose not to buy local. - foreign products from Marukai & Palama (for example) are cheaper! well, throughout my investigation, i found that although foreign products are cheaper, we may not be getting the same nutrional benefits as local produce.

one market that i visited to conduct interviews was Haleiwa Farmers Market. frankly i wasn't impressed with the prices, but it was a great local experience. i also learned about agri-tourism.

hopefully, we will all be able to buy quality groceries at a reasonable price, but after hearing some of our local farmers' pleas to buy their products, i'm telling the truth when i say i'll try my best to buy their products.
